Queensland Storm, Global Warming or the Norm?

Overnight Queensland Australia was hit by what is being called a once in 25-year storm.

The dangerous winds of up to cyclonic force ripping their way from the Hinterland through to the coast.

This storm has left more than 145,000 homes and businesses without power, one man aged 20 has died, his mate lucky to be alive after being rescued, another couple saved from their car when live power lines fell on their vehicle.

Even the channel 7 studios were not immune to the damage as their studio and offices becomes a flood zone as their roof buckled under the strain of rain and wind.

In some areas 70 mm of rain fell in 20 minutes that’s 7 cm or over 2.5 inches in less than half an hour…

Queensland often bears the brunt of cyclone and storms, its the price of living in such a beautiful climate, but these storms have been growing in intensity over the years, From Drought to Deluge, it is so erratic even the Bureau of Meteorology is stunned.

My question remains the same, Is this Climate Change and just the start of what is to become or is the norm, just erratic weather? After all if this is a once in 25 years storm, does it happen every 25 years which would put it as a regular event, even a once in century storm simply repeating its might 100 years on.

Given Queensland and Brisbane (as the capital) have been in drought for so many years, could this simply be nature’s way of correcting the situation. Thousands of people praying for rain all having their prays answered at once?

Or is this a sign of things to come, time to get used to it or will be looking back on storms like these and dreaming of the good old days of mild storms and minor damage as they intensify?

Either way I do think it’s going to be bumpy ride for quite a while to come. Regardless of if this is a natural cycle in Earth history, Global Warming, or Drought breaking I don’t think we have seen the worse of it.

Forever the Optimistic Cynic… you know hope for the best expect the worse and find comfort somewhere in between, It isn’t even summer yet, there is still the Cyclones, more thunder storms, huge sea swells, flash flooding, dumping rain yet to come to Queensland as the temperature climb for what is being tipped as a record breaking summer heat.

What will you do?

But this one takes the cake for responsible for your actions.

I truly dont know how authentic it is or isnt, but it is does show an interesting and strange series of events.

Their time has come Bali Bombers

The time is fast approaching when the convicted Bali Bombers — Mukhlas, Amrozi and Imam Samudra will be executed by firing Squad.

These 3 men commited a horrific crime. In 2002 their attacks killed 202 people, including 88 Australians at a Bali night club.

Even though they have been imprisoned and exhausted their right of appeal, they still hold celebrity status. Holding media conferrences, interviews etc. Tauting their beliefs with no regret at what they have done, the pain they have caused and stating they would do it again.

Through their faith they believe, they will become martyrs, and live on in heaven.

However even with all this, even with their lack of remorse and lack of respect regardling others right to live with dignity,

I am still in 2 minds regarding their execution.

I hold no sympathy at all for them, they are the lowest forms of life on earth, however I am thinking they are getting out of this quite easily. Yes death is the easy way out and for them it is a reward not a punishment, given what they believe they will gain by it.

I have always been against the death penalty, not seeing any benefit for society in killing another human being and quite frankly there is plenty of things in this world far worse than death.

One thing which has bothered me; ‘is why the media continue to report the tripe emminating from these sick individuals mouths?’ It is to say the least perpetuating their celebrity status amongst their peers, spreading an ideolgy which is of no benefit to any person on this planet and results in their becoming role models for other sick individuals.

If they were placed in a prison cell such as The Bay, with no access to any human contact for the rest of their lives, surely this would be a far greater punishment than death. If they were forced to suffer in their cells, and endure a lifetime of mundane boredom, with no contact, no entertainment, no human rights at all this would be far worse than death and would rather than send them to an eliteness amongst their peers, be a shameful reminder of what awaits people who commit such disgusting crimes on others.

I fear their death will only elevate them to a level of martyr and continue the myth of this is how you get there.

I wonder if God which ever faith she is had this in mind when she gave Religion to the masses. I seriously think not.

ONE . Recently, when I went to McDonald’s I saw on the menu that you could have an order of 6, 9 or 12 Chicken McNuggets. I asked for a half dozen nuggets. ‘We don’t have half dozen nuggets,’ said the teenager at the counter. ‘You don’t?’ I replied. ‘We only have six, nine, or twelve,’ was his reply. ‘So I can’t order a half dozen nuggets, but I can order six?’ ‘That’s right.’ So I shook my head and ordered six McNuggets.

TWO. I was checking out at the local Target with just a few items and the lady behind me put her things on the belt close to mine. I picked up one of those ‘dividers’ that they keep by the cash register and placed it between our things so they wouldn’t get mixed After the girl had scanned all of my items, she picked up the ‘divider,’ looking it all over for the bar code so she could scan it. Not finding the bar code she said to me, ‘Do you know how much this is?’ I said to her ‘I’ve changed my mind, I don’t think I’ll buy that today.’ She said, ‘OK,’ and I paid her for the things and left. She had no clue to what had just happened.

THREE. A lady at work was seen putting a credit card into her floppy drive and pulling it out very quickly. When I inquired as to what she was doing, she said she was shopping on the Internet and they kept asking for a credit card number, so she was using the ATM ‘thingy.’

FOUR. I recently saw a distraught young lady weeping beside her car ‘Do you need some help?’ I asked. She replied, ‘I knew I should have replaced the battery in this remote. Now I can’t get into my car. Do you think they (pointing to a distant convenience store) would have a battery to fit this?’ ‘Hmmm, I dunno. Do you have an alarm, too?’ I asked. ‘No, just this remote thingy,’ she answered, handing it and the car keys to me. As I took the key and manually unlocked the door, I replied, ‘Why don’t you drive over there and check about the batteries. It’s a long walk.’

FIVE. Several years ago, we had a junior typist who was none too swift. One day she was typing and turned to a secretary and said, ‘I’m almost out of typing paper. What do I do?’ ‘Just use copier machine paper,’ the secretary told her. With that, the junior took her last remaining blank piece of paper, put it on the photocopier and proceeded to make five ‘blank’ copies.

SIX. My neighbour works in the I.T. department in the central office of a large bank. Employees in the field call him when they have problems with their computers. One night he got a call from a bloke in one of the branches who had this question: ‘I’ve got smoke coming from the back of my terminal. Do you guys have a fire in the main frame?’

SEVEN. Police in Dubbo NSW interrogated a suspect by placing a metal colander on his head and connecting it with wires to a photocopier machine. The message ‘He’s lying’ was placed in the copier, and police pressed the copy button each time they thought the suspect wasn’t telling the truth. Believing the ‘lie detector’ was working, the suspect confessed.

Life is tough… It’s tougher if you’re stupid.
